Instructor: Dr. Aleksandra Pikula, MD
Dr. Pikula is a global leader in vascular neurology, brain health, and lifestyle medicine, with 20 years of professional experience. Recognized for her impactful scientific publications and international speaking engagements, she is dedicated to improving population brain health, with a special emphasis on women. As the visionary founder behind the EMBRACE Lifestyle program, she pioneers a holistic approach to optimal brain care, targeting stroke and dementia prevention during midlife.
Beyond her clinical and research pursuits, Dr. Pikula is a passionate advocate for wellness through lifestyle within workplaces and local communities worldwide. She actively participates in influential wellbeing initiatives and advocates for the lifestyle principles observed in blue zones, fostering a community of like-minded people. Originally from Croatia, she currently lives in Toronto with her husband, son, and beloved labradoodle. Her family’s shared passions include traveling, immersing themselves in diverse cultures and cuisines, and reconnecting with family in Europe whenever possible. She also enjoys cooking, reading, yoga, meditation and long hikes with family and friends.
At the University of Toronto and UHN – Krembil Brain Institute, Dr. Pikula holds the prestigious position of the Inaugural Jay & Sari Sonshine Chair in Stroke Prevention and Cerebrovascular Brain Health. Additionally, she serves as an Associate Professor of Medicine (Neurology), a Clinician-Investigator, and Co-Director of the Women's Neurology Fellowship program, demonstrating her commitment to advancing brain health research and education.
